Please note :

La physique = Physics

Les mathématiques = Maths or mathematics

La mécanique = Mechanics

They are all singular words. They are followed by a verb in the singular form :

Mathematics is fascinating. Physics has a lot of practical applications. Mechanics is a branch of physics.
