This course introduces students to the main theories, movements and debates in Gender Studies, while placing a specific emphasis on LGBT+ history and perspectives. Taking “the personal is political” as a starting point for critical discussion, it examines how feminist and queer movements have shaped and contested understandings of gender and power. Through theoretical readings and cultural materials (films, novels, activist productions...) students critically explore the diversity of feminist and queer approaches and their contemporary implications.
