This course will introduce participants to the Syriac language and its general cultural and historical setting(s). Syriac is a dialect of Aramaic, and its literary corpus is the third largest one in Late Antiquity after Greek and Latin. It is important in the history of philosophy, of Christianity, and of many other subjects. The course will be held in English and will provide a general presentation of the language, its grammar, and its culture. All required material will be provided by the organizer. The course will be held in person on Mondays in the Salle de Séminaire HALMA.
