From Page to Stage: Staging Power in Elizabethan Theatre
An Introduction to the Art of Staging Plays
This course is both academic and practical. The students will be asked to study scenes and to stage and act them.
The course will concentrate on dramatic texts of the Tudor period (1500-1603) by analysing the scenic representation of power and confrontation through a series of scenes from plays by Shakespeare, Marlowe, Ben Jonson …
The students will be given an introduction to the cultural, aesthetical and historical background of Renaissance theatre and they will be asked to choose a scene and stage it as they would in a production.
This is an introduction to the art of staging plays, an opportunity to combine literature and practice and understand what really makes drama.
