The fundamentals of kinetic theories will be detailed: Arrhenius and Perrin laws, activation energy, collision theory, transition state theory, master equation, and their use in the determination of rate coefficients.

The fundamentals of what is a complex reactive chemical system, and where it is possible to meet some, will be explained: industrial reactors, flames, biological systems. What makes these systems complex will be stressed: they are of transient nature, evolve with time, temperature, pressure and composition, and require solving a large number of equations.

Numerical tools will be presented: Detailed kinetics (reactions coupled with reaction rate constants), detailed thermodynamic data (Cp, H, S). How to find models and analyze them? Critical thinking towards literature data will be encouraged, to emphasize what insight can be gained from these models.

Finally the learned skills will be applied to an unknown system to solve a practical problem.
