Neoliberalism in the United States, from Goldwater to Trump

The course aims to examine neoliberalism, its economic, political and social consequences in the United States. It will evaluate the significance of Milton Freedman’s monetary theories in connection with the Chicago School of Economics and their impact on globalization. We will then trace the development of New Conservatism from the 1960s to the present day.

The course will focus on two key historical periods and two major political figures.

Barry Goldwater and his conservative politics in the 1960s.

Ronald Reagan and the implementation of Neoliberal politics in the 1980s.
